One of our clients - a non-profit organization focusing on Environment and Empowerment is looking for someone to lead the team in a General Manager position.
The General Manager, as the chief executive of this non-profit based in Hong Kong, is responsible for the actualization of the mission, and vision of the organization, and for the overall management and development of the organization, including goal setting, planning, implementation and evaluation of all operations, in conjunction with the Board of Directors. The GM is responsible for day-to-day management and operation, and protection of the goodwill, non-financial and financial assets of the organization while ensuring compliance with applicable grantor, donors, and government requirements.
1. LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT
Internally, you will lead and manage the team by putting special emphasis on providing an environment that facilitates personal and professional development of all employees. You will also be responsible from a Human Resources perspective. Further, you will be developing effective leadership and other skills of our student volunteers, elder and minority workers who handle the majority of the operations.
Externally, you will be a key face of the organization and will be nurturing key relationships, including: donors, volunteers, hotels, other NGOs, schools, sponsors and vendors.
2. STRATEGY & PLANNING
Participate in strategic planning for the organization together with the Board of Directors. Our organization treasures constant brainstorming and feedback from the team, especially from a
position like the General Manager. The Board sit down regularly to evaluate the current situation of the organization and plan ahead for future strategies - and we invite the General Manager to sit in for these meetings to provide insights and thoughts.
3A. FINANCIAL LEADERSHIP
To ensure financial sustainability of the organization. To provide guidance and oversight of the financial management of the organization, including preparation of an annual budget for
approval by the Board. To report to the Board regularly including preparing monthly, quarterly, half-year reports and forecasts as appropriate.
Take lead on the fundraising efforts of the organization, including applying for grants, corporate funding, crowdfunding, create and manage programs to generate revenue and donations for the
4A. CULTIVATE AND DEVELOP OUR HOTEL PARTNERSHIPS
Cultivate working relationships with hotels to ensure an efficient collection process, with the assistance of an Operations/Warehouse Manager. Research and
develop a wider and deeper hotel partnership base in Hong Kong and in Asia. With the assistance of a Project Assistant, you will be participating and contributing to the G.R.E.E.N. Hospitality Network, which aims to encourage businesses to work together to bring about innovative, sustainable, cross-border advancements to the global hospitality industry. There would be an annual Hospitality Conference and other events hosted by the G.R.E.E.N. Hospitality Network for you to take part and build networks for the organization.
4B. RECYCLING OPERATIONS
You will overview and improve the capabilities and systems of the recycling process with the help of an Operations/Warehouse Manager together with volunteers and workers.
Cultivate a working relationship with NGO partners that have capabilities to distribute our recycled products and amenities to the needy. With the assistance of Operations/Warehouse
Manager, to ensure that a database with appropriate records and documentation is maintained, and to provide results and feedback to the NGO partners as appropriate.
To develop a stream of direct distribution channel for our recycled products and amenities to the needy populations both locally and overseas. Capture and share our impact to these communities through quantity measurement and storytelling.
Lead, motivate and develop volunteers and workers so that they are passionate about what the organization achieves, and are committed to working effectively toward continual performance
improvement. Establish an ongoing process to improve the volunteer and worker experience satisfaction level. Implement a plan to promote our student volunteers as appropriate to leadership and advisory positions after completion of their internship.
Work with universities and secondary schools to run recycling sessions, educate about our mission and recycling knowledge, as well as further the organization brand.
6. MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS
Develop, in conjunction with the Board, a strategic marketing plan with a clear and concise message. Ensure optimal leverage from internet marketing, including the website and social
media. Represents the organization in media relations as appropriate, including participating in interviews, drafting and/or reviewing press releases and participating in all other media type
● Bachelor degree required (Masters preferred)
● 4 to 7 years minimum working experience in Business Administration and/or organization management, preferably with some NGO / Social Venture / start up
● Experience in the following will be highly desirable:
○ Financial control, or in some way management of budgets and balance sheets
○ Leadership or management of a team
● Experience or knowledge in the following will also be advantageous:
○ Understanding of the recycling industry
○ Unique knowledge and insights of the Hospitality industry
○ Working experience with schools, students and/or volunteers
○ Working knowledge of logistics
○ Fundraising experience
○ Marketing experience
